Children and young people who feel cared for by people at their school and feel connected to learning are more likely to be motivated, show improved academic outcomes and academic self efficacy [and] are less likely to abuse substances, engage in violence, report mental health problems. (Bond et al., 2007; McNeely Nonnemaker, & Blum, 2002; O’Brien & Bowles, 2013)
